Workato is a capable enterprise integration and automation platform, and most people searching for alternatives are not unhappy with its quality. They are asking a fit question. Workato is built for large, IT-led teams orchestrating many integrations under strict governance, with a broad compliance set and, as of 2026, an agentic layer of its own. If that is your situation, it may well be the right tool. But if you are looking because the pricing model is hard to predict at scale, because there is no UK data region, or because you would rather own the system than rent a platform, the honest landscape is worth laying out properly.
We build full-code custom and private AI, so the custom tier at the end of this page is ours, and we have written the comparison to be accurate rather than flattering. Every claim below is as of June 2026 and should be reconfirmed on each vendor's own documentation.
Methodology and disclosure. Product, residency, and compliance claims are taken from each vendor's public documentation as of June 2026, with pricing hedged because Workato and most enterprise iPaaS vendors do not publish list prices; dollar ranges cited are third-party estimates, not official figures. Ayoob AI builds custom and private AI, so the full-code custom tier below is ours. Each platform's genuine strengths are represented fairly.

Tray.ai is covered in the prose below; the table stays focused on the closest like-for-like enterprise platforms.
The enterprise iPaaS alternatives, compared fairly
Workato
Strengths. Enterprise-grade orchestration and governance, a large library of pre-built connectors and recipes, AI-assisted recipe building, strong embedded and OEM options, and a 2026 agentic layer of Genie agents built in Agent Studio. Its compliance set is broad, including SOC 1, 2 and 3, ISO 27001, ISO 27701 and ISO 42001, HIPAA with business associate agreements available, PCI DSS Level 1, and IRAP. It is a strong fit for large teams running many integrations under central control.
Where buyers look elsewhere. Pricing is quote-only and usage-based, so cost tracks recipe and task volume and is hard to model up front. There is no UK data region; the nearest is Frankfurt. The On-Premise Agent is a firewall connectivity agent, not a self-hosted platform, so automation data is still processed in Workato's cloud. And recipes are proprietary, which makes migration a real project. None of these is a defect so much as a reason a particular buyer's requirements point somewhere else. FedRAMP, worth noting for US public-sector buyers, is not listed among its certifications as of June 2026.
MuleSoft Anypoint (Salesforce)
Strengths. The API-led enterprise heavyweight, strong where integration is treated as a reusable API estate, and notably one of the few major iPaaS platforms with an actual UK cloud region (London, in CloudHub 2.0), so data can be pinned in-region. HIPAA coverage is available. If your reason for leaving Workato is UK residency on a managed platform, this is the closest like-for-like.
Where it falls short for some. It is a heavy, developer-centric platform with quote-only capacity pricing that third-party trackers place at the top of the market, and it carries the same own-versus-rent question as any platform.
Boomi
Strengths. An established enterprise iPaaS whose run-anywhere model lets you deploy a local runtime, the Atom or Molecule, on your own infrastructure, keeping integration data in your environment. It publishes a tiered entry point above the fully quote-only vendors and signs HIPAA business associate agreements. A good fit when hybrid deployment matters.
Where it falls short for some. It is still a platform you rent and configure rather than a system built around your specific workflows, and enterprise pricing moves to quote-only at scale.
SnapLogic
Strengths. An enterprise, AI-led integration platform whose Groundplex runtime can run self-managed on your own cloud or on-premise, which addresses residency directly. HIPAA coverage is available. Strong where you want a managed control plane with a runtime you host.
Where it falls short for some. Quote-only pricing and a feature surface aimed at large integration programmes rather than a focused set of owned workflows.
Celigo and Tray.ai
Celigo is a capable mid-market iPaaS, strongest for NetSuite and ERP-centric estates, with a private-cloud option for tighter data control; verify HIPAA coverage by plan. Tray.ai is a mid-market low-code platform with code steps and an AI agent builder, suited to teams that want some developer control without a full enterprise programme. Both are sensible steps down from Workato's weight if it is over-specified for your needs.
n8n
If your reason for leaving is that you want to self-host and own your runtime, n8n is the strong open and fair-code option, free to run as the Community edition with paid cloud tiers above it. It is engineering-led: you take on securing and evidencing the deployment yourself. We cover it in depth in our n8n alternatives guide, and the same caveat applies, self-hosting gives you control in exchange for responsibility.
A note on tiers: if you arrived here from the lighter no-code world, Zapier and Make sit a category below enterprise iPaaS, neither signs a HIPAA business associate agreement as of June 2026, and we cover the move up from them in our Zapier alternatives and Make alternatives guides.
The option these platforms leave out: a system you own
Every option above, however it is hosted, is still a platform you rent and configure, with your integrations expressed in that vendor's proprietary recipes and tied to its runtime. The tier they all leave out is a system you own outright. Full-code custom development gives you software built precisely around your workflows, deployed inside your own environment, including fully on-premise where data cannot leave, with no recipe or task ceiling and nothing proprietary to migrate away from if you change direction later. You own the code, so the lock-in question that sends people looking for a Workato alternative in the first place simply does not arise.
This is our tier, so we will be precise about when it is the right one. It is not a replacement for a broad integration estate; an iPaaS is genuinely better for connecting many systems under central governance. A private, owned build earns its place for a bounded set of workflows that are sensitive, strategically important, or complex enough that owning them outright beats renting them, the cases set out in private AI for UK regulated businesses and private AI on-premise. Our retainers run from GBP 4,000 to GBP 6,000 per month as of June 2026, and what you are buying is a system you keep, not a subscription you maintain. The fuller ownership argument is in build vs buy and what is full-code AI automation.
How to choose
- If you are running many enterprise integrations under central governance and Workato fits, stay on Workato. It is a strong platform for that job.
- If your blocker is UK residency on a managed platform, look at MuleSoft Anypoint and its UK region.
- If you want the integration runtime on your own infrastructure, Boomi and SnapLogic are built for hybrid and self-managed deployment.
- If Workato is over-specified for a mid-market or NetSuite-centric estate, look at Celigo or Tray.ai.
- If you have engineering capacity and want to self-host an open platform, n8n is the strong choice, as long as you own the security and evidence.
- If your automation is sensitive, strategically important, or something you need to own outright, that is when full-code custom development earns its place.
If you are not sure which side of that line you sit on, that is exactly the conversation we have on a discovery call. We will tell you straight if a platform is the better fit, because sending you to build something you do not need helps no one.
