AI Centre of Excellence
An organisational unit responsible for AI strategy, architecture standards, governance, and capability-building across the business, typically reporting to the CTO, COO, or a dedicated executive.
How it works
AI centres of excellence are how mid-market and enterprise UK businesses scale AI capability beyond initial point projects. The CoE owns the architecture standards (private vs cloud, model choice, integration patterns), governance (data handling, model behaviour, audit), capability building (training, hiring, supplier management), and the project portfolio. For most UK SMBs the CoE function is one person plus an external delivery partner rather than a team. The supplier choice matters: a supplier on a retainer model embedded with the CoE is structurally different from a supplier delivering point projects to specification. Ayoob AI works as the engineering arm of the client's AI CoE under our retainer model.
