Two-Phase GPU Text Search

A pattern matching method that uses a character frequency histogram pre-filter to reduce the candidate set before applying brute-force matching on the GPU, achieving sub-linear average-case performance on large document collections.

How it works

Full-text search across large document collections is expensive because every document must be compared against the query pattern. Two-phase GPU text search reduces this cost dramatically. In phase one, a character frequency histogram is computed for the search pattern and compared against pre-computed histograms for each document. Documents whose character frequency profile cannot possibly contain the pattern are eliminated without examining their content, typically reducing the candidate set by 90% or more. In phase two, the remaining candidates undergo brute-force character-by-character matching on the GPU, where the parallelism of compute shaders makes the operation fast even on large documents. Ayoob AI deploys this technique in its anti-cheat detection system, where it processes player chat logs and session telemetry across thousands of concurrent gaming sessions in sub-second latency.
